What you need to know about Internet in New Caledonia
When in New Caledonia you will probably want to keep in touch with your friends and family or just surf on the Web.
If you live on site, you will have to ask to access the wireless system.
If you live in a hotel, you will have to ask at the front desk the password to access the system. Some hotels have a free connection; others may ask you to pay a fee. It will be wiser to ask when you make your booking.
If you have your own flat, then you will have to contact one of the Internet providers to get your own connection at home. If you have a telephone line at home but don’t have it connected, you will first have to go to any Post Office and apply for a connection, you must specify that you need an Internet access. Usually it takes two weeks before you have your connection. In the meantime you will have to do some shopping around to get the best price with an Internet provider. Here is the list:

Car rentals
If you just want to discover the City and the beaches close by or go anywhere you want just to explore the island, you may want to hire a car. Don’t forget that in New Caledonia they drive on the other side of the road. It is exactly the same as in Australia except that you drive on the right side and overtake on the left side, give way to the right; the rest is just the same. If you don’t feel too confident, take it slowly at first and just in case, put a colourful sticker on the steering wheel or the dashboard with written on it “Right hand side”.
