What is it like to work in Australia
Australia is a member of the Commonwealth and has a population of more than 21 million people and is a huge country, yet around 70 per cent of the population live in the 10 largest cities.
This generally gives you a lot more open space per person, for example the UK can fit geographically 7.5 times into the Australian State of Queensland, yet the UK has a population of 62 million people and Queensland only has 4.5 million, think wide open space, think pulling up to a beach and just parking your car where ever you like, of course there are busy places in Australia, of course there are bustling cities, but outside of the Capital cities you can still literally just stop and park directly outside the shop you want, or the beach that looks inviting and not many places charge you to park.
Let’s compare living in Australia to living in the UK, next week is the Easter public holiday, if you were going to spend time at the beach in the UK in Bognor Regis in Sussex (yes I know probably bit cold for that, but humour me here, it’s only an example), you’d probably have to park 2 miles away from the beach and walk paying exorbitant amounts for fish n chips.
In Australia there’s a fair chance you would just park directly next to or on the beach, there would be free BBQ’s available to use to cook your own lunch on, most councils provide free electric BBQ’s for people to use in parks and at the beach etc.
Ok, so it’s a big country with lots of space, what else is different about working in Australia?
Resilient economy, massive mining and LNG booms
Australia has had one of the most outstanding economies of the world in recent years and it is now going through a bigger boom than ever before, with minerals such as Coal and LNG now also booming, in the next 5 years there are over 140 BILLION Dollars worth of engineering and mining projects being carried out in Australia.
Take for example the exchange rate of the Australian Dollar compared to the Pound, the current rate sits at about $1.61 buying one pound, remember when it used to be one Pound brought you more than 2.5 Australian Dollars, not now though, things are simply booming in parts of Australia, sure not everywhere, but CAT Jobs only has positions available in the boom areas – how long will the boom in these areas last, most of the mines have enough reserves to last another 50 years at least.
Immigration
Immigration is an important part of Australian society. Since 1945, over six million people from 200 countries have come to Australia as new settlers and people born overseas make up almost one quarter of the total population.
Quality of life
Australia is ranked among the top five places to live in the world, this is based on such things as life expectancy, education and income. Australia has low crime rates, a good welfare system, a very high standard of medical care and a very clean healthy environment, Australia is still an excellent choice for migrants.
